A Great Photo Makes All the Difference.
Your custom portrait is only as beautiful as the photo behind it. The good news? You don't need a professional shot. You just need a clear one. Here's exactly what to look for.
WHAT MAKES A GREAT PHOTO
Five things to check before you upload.
Clear, In-Focus Face
We need to see your pet's eyes, nose, and full face clearly. The sharper the better. Blurry or out-of-focus photos won't produce the detail you want in a portrait.
Good Natural Lighting
Natural light is always best, outdoors or near a window. Avoid photos taken in dim rooms, or with flash directly on your pet's face, which can wash out detail and cause red-eye.
Face Forward or at a Slight Angle
Full-face or three-quarter portraits work best. Profile shots (pet looking sideways) can limit the portrait detail. If you have a few options, choose the one where you can see both eyes.
Minimal Background Clutter
A simple, clean background makes it easier to isolate your pet's portrait. Busy backgrounds won't ruin the portrait, but they can make the process more complex.
High Resolution
The higher the resolution, the better the final print quality. If you took the photo on a smartphone in the last 5 years, you're likely fine. Avoid screenshots or heavily compressed images.
What to Avoid
- Dark or back lit photos where your pet's face is shadowed
- Extreme close-ups where features are distorted
- Photos where the pet is in motion or blurry
- Heavy filters or edited photos with unnatural colors
- Screenshots of other photos, always submit the original
